Words from the London & Kent Border League Junior Cup Final programme 1979 (lost 1-2)

Formed in 1978 by John Smith, who resigned as Secretary after a handful of games, leaving Mark James & Paul Lloyd to take over.

The team as played very well this season, losing only once so far which was in the Delphis Cup.

Our present ground at Butterfly Lane, Eltham was obtained with great help from our Manager, Bert Masters.

The team would like to thank the supporters for turning up in all condition which has helped to boost the team to its present position.

Playing Staff :

Terry Waldron - Goalkeeper

One of the main reasons for our great run in the cup in this our first season

Steve Smith - Fullback

Hard tackling fullback with plenty of stamina and aggression

Ricky Jull - Fullback

One of three bothers in the team, Ricky pushes forward and snaps up the odd half-chance

Cliff Waldron - Central Defender

Smallest man in the team, but his lack of height does not hinder his aerial ability

Rob Edmonds - Central Defender

Big man of our defence, stops at nothing to retrieve the ball which has helped him score a few own-goals this season (note - it was 7 going into the final, where it became 8 !)

Mark James - Midfield Sweeper

Main role to settle defence and to motivate the midfield with calm efficiency

Gary Jull - Midfield

Gary, the team Captain, plays a great part in setting up many good scoring chances

Keith Jull - Midfield

Keith is the most gifted of our team, uses skilful close control to score spectacular goals

Alan Willing - Forward

Hard working forward who adds strength and height to the attack

Paul Lloyd - Forward

Paul came back from injury to play on the wing but with his height acts as the additional centre-forward

Mick Disbery - Forward

Not the tallest of centre-forwards, but a knack for scoring opportunist goals has made him our top scorer

Garry Wright - Forward

One of the younger players of the team, can torment defenders on either flank with his close control and speed off the mark

 Graham Denyer - Forward

Gives 100% in effort and works hard to improve his overall game

Wayne Upson - Forward

Wayne is better known to the team as Shirley. Needs pre-match pep talk before showing his best form

Anthony Withers - Defence

Tony is a great asset to the team moral on and off the field and will be missed when he leaves for France in April

Jerry Shirashi - Midfield

Jerry had never played football until the beginning of the season, but what he lacks in ability he makes up with a determination to do well. Also leaves for France in April

Bert Masters - Manager

Took over as manager at the start of the season and has done much to shape and keep the team together as a unit
